The writer goes on to give a synopsis of the fictional story. James Mitchel has already been struggling to get over the Kursk tragedy in which 118 Russians were killed. So, he, along with his wife Nathalie and daughter, Catherine, relocates to Venezuela with the hope that he will be able to erase the memories of the horror of his last mission. In Caracas in Venezuela, he takes up the role of a military attaché in the US Embassy.

The story is about how Mitchel's hopes of turning a new page in his life were shattered. Mitchel stumbles upon a plot in which his own country makes surreptitious moves for overthrowing the democratically-elected government of Venezuela that is being headed by Hugo Chávez.

Mitchel wants to make amends to the wrongs in which he was involved in his past and hence, he teams up with Jose Abrantes, an intelligence officer working for the government of Venezuela for restoring democratic power and averting further bloodshed.
