Atlanta, GA -- (SBWire) -- 01/27/2016 --Sherri Allen, a metro Atlanta attorney, has launched a new website, http://atlantadisabilitylaw.com, to help people in Atlanta and Georgia appeal and qualify for Social Security Disability.
"The Social Security Administration makes it difficult to apply for Disability Benefits. The forms are complicated. The website is difficult. It should not be that way," she said. "This new website cuts the clutter and reduces the confusion."
Applying for Social Security Disability is every Georgian's right. Peach State residents also have the right to understand their rights under Social Security rules and laws. The new website clearly explains what Social Security is obligated to do and what people applying for disability should do.
"It's unfortunate, but the system is intentionally designed to discourage people. Nolo, a very respected legal website, says about 70 percent of all Social Security Disability claims are denied on the first application," she said. "Nolo goes on to add, 'And Social Security will keep denying you for disability if you continue to make new applications instead of filing an appeal.'"
Ms. Allen said people need to understand what they can do, should do, have to do and cannot do when applying for Social Security disability. That's what the website aims to do.
Ms. Allen has posted several informative articles and videos explaining how the process works. More information will be added as the need arises, she said. The website even helps people understand the appeal process.
"Appeals are difficult and time-consuming. The Social Security Administration says it has information to help people with the appeal process. It's not much help," she said. "The federal agency continues to make the process difficult."
People who follow through with the appeal process generally need legal representation to get results, without legal representation about 43 percent of the appeals are approved by an administrative law judge.
For those who decide they cannot manage the appeal process without help, Ms. Allen's law firm is ready to help. As a member of the National Organization for Social Security Representatives (NOSSCR) and the National Organization of Veterans' Advocates (NOVA), she is well-versed in the process.
"You also need to know that you will not be charged a fee for filing an appeal with an attorney. Attorney fees are contingent and must be approved by the Social Security Administration. Fees are capped at 25% of retroactive benefits and cannot exceed $6,000.00. The attorney is paid by the Social Security Administration when your appeal is approved," she said. "We are ready to help you. All initial consultations are free."
