Las Vegas, NV -- (SBWire) -- 06/18/2014 --In addition to being an accomplished music artist, DJ Cavem Moetavation is quite the O.G.—organic gardener, that is. Hailing from Denver, DJ Cavem aims to “teach hip-hop history and how to grow greens—and not the ones you roll.” Producing both beats and beets, this vegan chef and founder of “eco hip-hop” stands out as a unique addition to the hip-hop community, and he has been well-received by fans and celebrity supporters, including a feature a full page feature and endorsement from Oprah in her monthly magazine O, in last month's issue.
DJ Cavem has a long list of roles: organic gardener, midwife, vegan chef, urban calligraphy artist, educator and, of course, b-boy and emcee. Besides his many eco-centric interests, DJ Cavem explores these concepts with music that is inspired by James Brown, Public Enemy, DJ Premier, J Dilla and Dead Prez and that’s often compared to Nas—the vegan version. He aims to not only make people bob their heads, but to think about his messages too.
DJ Cavem has a long discography from his past decade of a career: Moetavation (2005), The Chakraz (2007), Moetavation Deep Rokc (2008), Going Green Living Bling EP (2009), The Teacher’s Lounge (2010), The Produce Section – The Seedling EP (2012) and The Produce Section – The Harvest (2012).
This hip-hop artist has already mingled on stage with a number of national artists in his genre: B.o.B. Wyclef Jean, Rakim, Mos Def, Ghostface Killa, Les Nubians, DJ Premier with DJ Vajra, Heiroglyphics, Gill Scott Heron, Public Enemy, Snoop Dogg (Snoop Lion) and Dead Prez at Fillmore Auditorium and Rock the Bells 2008.
As for other notable accomplishments, DJ Cavem’s project, The Produce Section, divided into two EPs, The Seedling and The Harvest, is an award-winning curriculum that is currently used in schools and universities to introduce the subjects of organic gardening, agricultural sustainability, food localization, holistic health awareness and green job development. He also had the unique distinction of being not only a panelist but also a featured artist at the International Association of Culinary Professionals Conference in Chicago in 2014. He’s also been featured in magazines, including Oprah Magazine in October 2013 and Yes! Magazine in February 2014.
His next project is called Eco-Twerk, which is another branch of eco-hip-hop, and it covers topics of deforestation, fracking, oil drilling, profit and consumption and the stripping of the Earth. He also is a proponent for riding a bike for health, which is a great way to battle the epidemic of obesity. He plans to release this album, Eco-Twerk, in spring 2015.
Also in spring 2015, DJ Cavem will release Damn Near Raw, what he deems to be the freshest cookbook ever. His DJ Cavem documentary is expected to premier at the Hollywood Film Festival in October 2014. In late summer 2014, he’s planning on embarking on a YogaTrap tour and video series. His Indiegogo campaign for his album and curriculum, The Produce Section, runs through July 1, 2014.
In June this year, DJ Cavem will have his track “Hybrid Lex” featured on WiFi PR Group’s upcoming compilation, Indie Anthems Vol. 6, a collection of international, independent talent spanning a wide range of genres that WiFi wants to put on the radars of music lovers and industry tastemakers the world over.
