Savalou, Benin -- (SBWire) -- 04/01/2014 --Green Sky looks to bring 100,000 homes out of darkness and eliminate 150,000,000 kg of CO2.

Solar Benin Energy is an on-going off-grid electrification project of the U.S based 501c(3) nonprofit organization NOVI Africa. Solar Benin Energy strives to improve the quality of life in rural Benin by providing access to affordable solar electricity. They insist on reliability and making electricity available to all.

Solar Benin Energy has designed an affordable unique solar electricity system called MiSS (Mini Solar System).

MiSS powers up to 20 lights, television, cell phone, radio, and accessories. MiSS includes everything people need to power their home, making electricity available anywhere they go. With every installation of MiSS, a family will have electricity for life. No expensive monthly electricity bills or power outages and no hazardous kerosene lamps polluting the environment.

The team needs support to raise $50,000 to launch their Green Sky Fund. The fund pays for home solar electricity systems to be produced, distributed, and installed. The aim is to reach families throughout all of Africa. Majority of Beninese have incomes that allow them to repay the production cost of their solar system. The repayment of the first 100 units installed will fund the production of 100 more units, which will then go to 100 new households and the system will keep on giving. This is not a one-time project; all donations will constantly have an impact on improving family’s lives from year to year.

For every 100 solar systems installed, backers will be helping the environment by eliminating approximately 150,000 kg of CO2 being emitted into the atmosphere. Backers will be bringing electricity to over 600 Africans, and help each family save $200 on an average. This means more African families will be able to afford to send their children to school.

This campaign will receive all funds raised even if it does not reach its goal. Funding duration: March 10, 2014 - April 24, 2014 (11:59pm PT).
