Indianapolis, IN -- (SBWire) -- 04/08/2015 --Friends of Ferdinand Inc. and Indiana Grand Racing and Casino will be celebrating the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) national Help A Horse Day on April 25th. Friends of Ferdinand Inc. is competing for a chance to win some of the $50,000 in prize money from the ASPCA to assist in the rehabilitation, retraining and adoption of retired racehorses. In 2015, there will be seven winners. Three grand prize winners will win $10,000 and four runners-up will receive $5,000.
To celebrate the day, Friends of Ferdinand Inc. has partnered with Indiana Grand Racing and Casino on April 25th to celebrate thoroughbreds in both their racing careers and in their next career as sport horses, trail horses and family pets. We invite the public to Indiana Grand Racing and Casino to enjoy an evening of Thoroughbreds, dinner, drinks, fireworks and to learn more about Thoroughbred aftercare and adoption.
This nationwide competition is for equine rescues and sanctuaries to raise awareness about the work they do to help at-risk horses in their community. Horses have been central to the ASPCA's work since its founding 148 years ago.
"The ASPCA Help A Horse Day contest is a wonderful opportunity for Friends of Ferdinand Inc. and Indiana Grand to help spread awareness about the importance of Thoroughbred aftercare," said Sara Busbice, President, Friends of Ferdinand Inc. "Friends of Ferdinand boasts a 100% successful adoption rate of our horses into homes where they thrive and excel in their next career. The match between adopter and horse is crucial and is the reason why we take time to identify the strengths and weaknesses of our horses and place them in the right home, the first time. We hope our supporters and those interested in learning more about our program will come to Indiana Grand and help us win a $10,000 grant so we can continue to assist Thoroughbreds for years to come."
