Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWire) -- 05/24/2016 --It's one thing to be unique. It's another for that uniqueness to really do something. To have function, to have purpose, to have prowess. Égard Watch Company accomplishes all this and more with its unforgettable timepieces. Its watches meld the jagged with the luxurious in details that melt together brashness and sensitivity in one flowing yet intricately crafted working piece of art.
One of the lines that has put Égard on the map in terms of this approach to watchmaking is Passages. A series of watches created in collaboration with none other than William Shatner, Passages was a success story waiting to happen. The inspiration behind the signature watch case came from Salvador Dalí's The Persistence of Memory – better known to most simply as "the melting clocks painting".
Égard Founder and Designer Ilan Srulovicz reflected on the process that went into creating the watches. "While Dalí is easy to draw a general inspiration from, it is extremely challenging to find a way to take what is moving about his life and work and newly mold it into something original. I am proud that we achieved just that with this collaborative effort. Though an arduous process, it is one that paid off." Srulovicz went on to say, "There is only one Dalí and there only ever be one Dalí. In striving to create timepieces as not just objects to tell time but also as timeless works of arts, we humbly and sincerely hope that one day people will look back many years from now and say there is only one Égard and one line of Passages."
At first look at Égard's Passages, Dalí may not be what immediately comes to mind. However, another great artist, Pablo Picasso is often credited with saying: "Good artists copy, great artists steal"; and, in this sense, Égard certainly has created something that is indisputablely their own. Passages spared no expense creating a custom case and hand crafted curved sapphire crystal. To mark the passage of time, authentic meteor dust is placed on the dial and a modified automatic movement showcases the open heart movement as well as a day night indicator. Every Passages watch comes with Mr. Shatner's signature engraved on the back as well as limited edition numbering.
While Passages stands at the head of the fleet as it were, Égard has amassed no shortage of additional timeless, original watches which are sure to fit styles and personalities across the board. Meticulously crafted, Égard's timepieces range from the modern to the classic with features such as Swiss movements, water resistance to 100 feet, limited editions, and a variety of special colors and textures for both men and women – to name a few.
