Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWire) -- 08/12/2014 --Domestic violence is a hidden horror in the hispanic community, one that hit home early for Luisa Diaz. She was only five years old when she witnessed her grandmother’s struggle to care for 15 children after escaping her grandfather’s abuse. “My grandmother is my hero because she left with no education, and struggled to take care of us,”said Diaz. “If more people in the hispanic community shared their stories, they would realize they’re not alone.”
Diaz, now a successful television producer and host, says her success was inspired by her grandmother’s drive to survive. Now Luisa wants to help others and is taking the first step by holding a Gala to raise awareness on behalf of the charity Safe Passage.
Mi Amor Gala will host a Havana White Party and will donate a portion of the proceeds to the non-profit 501(c)3 Safe Passage. The Latin themed event will include conga drummers, singing, mojitos and hors d’oeuvres. Many Latino celebrities will also be in attendance and available for interviews. Inspirational women who’ve empowered others will be honored at the event.
Adrienne Maloof of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is a friend and supporter. “Diaz is a true beauty inside and out,” said Maloof. “She understands that we need to support each other and speak out until more hispanic women realize, it’s not okay to suffer in silence.”
“We teach women that you need to heal from the inside out,” said Trish Steele, CEO of Safe Passage. “Some of the most fearful clients we have are hispanic, so we see first hand how crucial Luisa’s mission is and appreciate her efforts to help us help others.”
