Normal, IL -- (SBWire) -- 10/29/2014 --No kid likes homework, but getting across the importance of doing it is easier said than done. In fact, the grapple between parent, child and their dreaded homework is something of a cultural foundation. Bucking the trend with gusto, author Todd Lyons is delighted to announce a new book series that will have all children seeing school in a totally different and fun new light.
‘The Misadventures of Johnny’ series tells the tales of its obviously-named protagonist, a third-grader who often doesn’t play by the rules and is forced to face the consequences. Johnny’s stories are told to Todd, a fellow grade school student who requires much-needed direction from his father.
The series’ first volume, ‘Johnny and His Homework’, sees Todd asking his dad exactly why he has to do his homework; what ensues is a fun yet vital story about the consequences Johnny is forced to face when his own homework is put on the back-burner.
“The end moral is half serious and half funny, but will have all kids recognizing the importance of doing their homework to the highest standards and getting it submitted on time,” explains Lyons. “Many children don’t really understand the consequences, but preaching or getting angry is an ineffective way to educate them.”
Continuing, “I’m using a very unique literary device to help children see these consequences through a fun story that will actually get them listening.”
Lyons is also diligently working on book two.
“It’s going to be titled ‘Johnny and the South American Fly’, telling a story about respecting school books and what happens to Johnny when a fly is squashed between the pages of his Spanish book. I also soon hope to have approved four audiobooks that tell each story with either narration or narration and background music. Exciting days are ahead!” he adds.
