Wakefield, West Yorkshire -- (SBWire) -- 03/22/2016 --The popularity of using technologically advanced methods to grow crops and crucially improve growth has been highlighted by a number of 'space-age' gardening initiatives taking place in UK schools. The UK Space Agency has teamed up with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) to send 2kg of seeds to the International Space Station, which are returned to Earth and are to be distributed across 5,000 schools; part of studying the efficiency of space and different growing conditions on plants.
This focus on the different methods that growth can be boosted through technology too has drawn special attention to hydroponics – with a number of schools imitating hydroponic techniques through creating 'bottle gardens' and using nutrient solutions to grow their seeds. It is thought that these school initiatives focusing on the future of plant growth will see a rising popular interest in hydroponics.
Hydroponics is a technologically advanced agricultural method which allows the possibility of increased crop yields in a shorter time; also advantageous for modern demand. Keen to comment on the role of hydroponics growing and why involvement can be so exciting was Hydroponica, an expert in the area. A spokesperson had this to say:
"The school initiatives show that there is rising popular interest in the future of plant growing, not just relying on typical soil-based methods. Schools are already 'trying their own' and one way people really can make progress in their growing projects is through hydroponics. That is why we offer a range of equipment options, including helpful kits."
