Washington, DC -- (SBWire) -- 08/25/2016 --ADEConsults LLC an energy consultant in Northern Virginia has officially launched a Kickstarter campaign for garnering widespread support and financial backing for a seminar on green-house gas (GHG) reduction in Washington DC. The seminar is targeted at Foreign Embassies in Washington DC and aims to educate and assist the responsible staff members of such embassies manage and reduce GHGs. Guest speakers from PJM Interconnection, a regional transmission organization that coordinates the movement of wholesale electricity in more than 14 U.S. states. The wholesale electric provider, Enernoc, will also be in attendance.
The current practice of purchasing renewable energy in Washington DC is typically occurs by purchasing green credits/environmental attributes or renewable energy credits (REC). According to ADEConsults company spokespersons, such RECs do not necessarily increase the capacity of renewable energy, because they typically do not require the test of additionality (new renewable energy generation capacity). Thus, RECs can result in increased costs for the end user without benefitting the environment.
"Our goal for this seminar is to educate the staff at the embassies on how to correctly purchase renewable energy from a remote site, gain the REC credits, or monetary credits, while meeting the test of additionality and to create the contract path from the embassy to the renewable energy provider," Said project creator Alan Edwards.
The Company states that RECs and the REC market can foster renewable energy generation and that it seeks to educate embassy staff of how to purchase renewable energy to ensure that there will be a true reduction in GHG.
