Vilnius, Lithuania -- (SBWire) -- 09/29/2016 --Patient from the UK, a 78-year old lady, had been suffering pain after unsuccessful hip replacement surgery in the UK, and needed a hip revision surgery – which she chose to go abroad for. The patient was told she would need to spend 8 days in the hospital after the surgery, and then another 10 days in the country for recovery and rehabilitation, seeing the doctors every other day. As most UK patients do, the patient has decided to leave the hospital after 8 days and move to a chosen hotel for recovery.
However, after she was operated and spent the planned 8 days in the hospital after the surgery, the patient has decided to change her plans and not leave the hospital and go to the hotel.
"Choosing to go abroad for hip revision surgery is not an easy decision - I now understand that the care that I got in the hospital, the attention and help, I would have not gotten anywhere else. Our mentality is structured in a way that we cannot allow ourselves to be hospitalized for a long time – but when you think of it – hospital is the only place where you would be getting timely professional help, which is so much needed after surgery. After the first 8 days in the hospital, I could not imagine leaving to a hotel – everyone at the hospital was so nice and attentive, I could not imagine myself staying in a hotel room alone with no help." – says the hip revision patient.
"It is not uncommon for patients from the UK to plan their trip with several days of stay in a hotel after leaving the hospital – this is fine with us as long as doctors allow it. However, we see more and more patients change their plans after being operated and spending a couple days in the hospital – they see what they get here at the hospital, and they know they would not be getting this kind of care anywhere else – especially in a hotel. We are always happy to accommodate such patients for another few days." – says Andrius Jonutis, General Deputy Manager at Kardiolita Hospital – the leading private general hospital in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Patient from the UK Refuses to Leave Hospital and Go to Hotel After Hip Revision Surgery
When going abroad for surgery, it is acceptable for patients to spend time in a hospital during the surgery and then for another week or two, for recovery. Patients from the UK, however, prefer to spend in the hospital the minimum possible amount of time, and then go to a hotel for recovery.
