Pasadena, CA -- (SBWire) -- 09/01/2011 --Steady recruitment efforts by Washington's largest law firms for 2012 summer associates have been reported.
Despite the retrenchment in summer programs' recruitment nationwide, offices of major firms in Washington are about to hire the same number of associates as 2011, for summer 2012.
Even though Akin Gump has plans to hire up to 20 summer associates next year, it is down from having 34 summer associates in 2008 and not far above the ground from 12 summer associates in 2009 and to 17 this year.
Finnegan plans to recruit 17 summer associates this year, creeping up slightly from last year, while Wiley Rein plans has sustained its summer class on 15 in the last two years and plans to maintain it this year too.
Covington & Burling with 526 local attorneys had 64 summer associates in 2008, 62 in 2009, down to 54 in 2010 and 47 this year and is keeping a target of recruiting between 45 and 55 summer associates in 2012.
There is a gradual decline in the size of the summer associates class in almost every firm for years that have passed and the coming year in Washington.
