European Stocks Slide After Fed's Bleak Outlook

London, England -- (SBWire) -- 09/27/2011 --Spread betting provider City Index (http://www.cityindex.co.uk/) takes a look at the financial activity shaping the markets on 22nd September 2011.

Negative economic outlooks emerging from the US have caused European stock markets to decline in value this morning (September 22nd).

An announcement from the Federal Reserve across the Atlantic yesterday, in which it signalled that the American economy is struggling to get back on its feet in the wake of the worldwide financial slump, has had a knock-on effect on indices in Europe.

Investors are evidently becoming more risk-averse at the moment as they seek to purchase only assets that are perceived as safe havens, prompting many experts in the industry to move away from currencies altogether in favour of commodities like gold.

Jonathan Sudaria, trader at London Capital Group, told Bloomberg that this announcement from the Fed has resulted in a "fleeing" from anything seen as risky, such as all stocks in the eurozone.

For instance, as of 10:39 BST, the benchmark Stoxx 600 index had fallen by 3.58 per cent since trading opened earlier today.
