Unemployment Rate Lowers in Oklahoma City, Hound Lists over 6,500 Job Openings

Pasadena, CA -- (SBWire) -- 11/04/2011 --Oklahoma City has reported the lowest unemployment report in spite of the rise in the rise in the unemployment rate. The rise has been visible in 73 counties out of the 77 in Oklahoma City.

The unemployment rose by 0.5 percent bringing it to 5.5 percent. Jobless rate in the Tulsa metro area's rose to 6.4 percent in September, from 6.0 percent a month earlier. Jobless rate in Nowata County moved up 0.2% to 7.1%. Osage County saw an unemployment rate of 6.8% while Washington County's jobless rate jumped half of a percentage to 4.9%. Latimer County has the highest unemployment rate in the state at 9.8% while Roger Mills County has the state's lowest unemployment rate at 2.4%.

Jobless rates were lesser in September this year than that in 2010, 249 of the 372 metro areas nationwide were higher in 102 areas and remained steady in 21 areas. Unemployment was 8.8 percent nationally, lower from 9.2 percent a year earlier. Jobs in strong demand are skilled positions such as engineering, accounting, and specialized technology jobs.
