Sunnyvale, CA -- (SBWire) -- 03/22/2012 --K-12 and college students in America now have the facility to harness technology for accessing class notes, editing notes and creating fully functional virtual notebooks. A substantial number of students own iPads, and quite of few of them use iPads for educational purposes. The innovative eNotebook app is the brainchild of the prominent Pennsylvania educationist Kevin Giffhorn.
Created by WeLearn Educational Software, this iPad application offers a wide range of features and benefits to its users. Not only can students quickly copy their teachers’ notes (in DOC, PDF or PPT formats) to their iPad, but they can also instantly switch from reading to writing mode using this application. Students can take notes in margins and highlight selected parts of the text on the downloaded files. And they can do all this without going through the hassle of converting the files. On top of it, they do not even require an Internent connection once the class files are downloaded.
Kevin Giffhorn is a National Board Certified Teacher, and he has taught high-school mathematics for more than 15 years. In addition, he has also served as the department chairperson and adjunct college professor. His interest in harnessing technology for the purposes of education earned him the The Carroll Country Outstanding Educator with Technology in 2007.
Mr. Giffhorn was surprised to find that there was no iPad application catering to the obvious needs of students. He mulled building his own app to fulfill this need. “I thought about how I teach and how students would benefit from using technology in the classroom. In most cases, students are still using the traditional paper and pencils, while all other areas of instruction have advanced,” said Kevin Giffron.
Students used the beta version of the applications, and their practical suggestions helped to make eNotebook the perfect app for techno-savvy students. Giving credit to the students, Kevin Giffhorn said, “The students’ input was invaluable, and I knew we had a successful app when the some of the students started using the pre-released app to take school notes in their classes.”
In order to transform his ideas into a fully functional app, Mr. Gifforn fonded WeLearn Educational Software and approached IndiaNIC for the software development aspect of the project. IndiaNIC iPad developers stepped into his shoes and gained a clear understanding of the app Kevin Gifforn wanted to develop. The final result satisfied Mr. Gifforn who applauded the effort of IndiaNIC iPad developers, “It’s just really neat working with them and seeing something that I wrote down on paper and had in my head ... become a workable, usable app.” Members of IndiaNIC’s iPad app development team were proud to be a part of the project.
