Kurumba Maldives hosts Maafushi Island Orphanage Education Training Center (ETCC)

Vihamanafushi, Republic of Maldives -- (SBWire) -- 06/20/2012 --On the 10th of May 2012, Kurumba Maldives (http://www.kurumba.com/) hosted 37 underprivileged children from the Maafushi Island Orphanage ETCC enjoyed a day on Kurumba Maldives. This program was organised in conjunction with the Human Rights Commission to celebrate international children’s day.

ETCC provides primary education and vocational training for the drop outs from schools, orphans, homeless children and other children who have been neglected from schooling. Every child in ETCC is being provided with food, clothing uniforms, shoes, toiletries and educational materials. It is primarily for boys between the ages of 8 and 16. The ETCC relies on donations from businesses and the public in order to assist the development of these children. The focus of the orphanage is to prepare the boys for life after the orphanage by providing education in basics trades, tailoring, welding, painting and basic jewelry.

Surprisingly, many of the 37 children have never visited a resort or hotel with eating in Restaurant being something quite novel.

During the day, a number of activities were organised by the Kurumba team. At the end of the afternoon, the children were provided with a memento bag to take home with them. There was a relay race, friendly resort and children friendly football match, tug of war. A buffet lunch was served prior to presentation of little goodie bags. Kurumba also donated a television for the orphanage.

Mariyam Laiza the Advocacy Officer from the Human Rights Commission stated, “we greatly appreciate Kurumba Maldives (http://www.kurumba.com/) support in this special program for our Children. It offers them insight to what future paths they may have in the future. I am sure that this day will leave a lasting memory for many of these children.

Mohammed Abdulla, the Director of Maafushi orphanage stated, that we are highly appreciative of the efforts made by Kurumba Maldives. Is shows that Kurumba’s cares about the community particular the homeless and under privileged. Many of the children here today have greatly enjoyed their visit and many stated that they would like to work at Kurumba in the future.

We can only hope that some of these children from the orphanage pursue a career in hospitality”
