Johannesburg, Gauteng -- (SBWire) -- 09/29/2009 -- The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth has been especially built for 2010, with a capacity of 50 000. It will host five first-round matches, one second-round, one quarter-final, and the third-place playoff.
The structure is a futuristic soccer stadium, which is incorporated within a multi-purpose facility specifically designed to serve the community for years to come.
Prosound were contracted by Di-Data to do the full design, supply and installation of the sound system keeping in line with the FIFA requirements.
The design utilizes X 56 Electro- Voice FRX 15” Horn Loaded Coaxial loudspeaker systems driven in a combination of Passive and Bi-Amped configurations. Crest Audio Cki-series power amplifiers fitted with NX-CobraNet cards were used. A total of 136 Electro-Voice FM4.2 speaker systems were used in the under balcony area where the spectators are shaded from the main speaker clusters.
The heart of the system as with all of the 9 stadium installations by Prosound (Pty) Ltd is the Peavey Media Matrix. Dual Nion 3’s were utilized in this specific installation. The Nion digital processors are responsible for all system functions which include monitoring of all amplifiers and loudspeaker systems for faults, individual and overall system equalisation, compression, and delay where required.
The majority of Prosound work was done at a fear factor height of 40m and the team were constantly subjected to typical gale force winds expected in PE.
However, as usual Prosound completed the sound system installation on time.
