Crosshills, West Yorkshire -- (SBWire) -- 01/15/2010 -- A Staggering one million UK households have used a credit card to pay their mortgage or rent during the last twelve months according to a new report from the housing charity Shelter.
Shelter's Director of Policy and Campaigns, Kay Boycott said: ""If people are already struggling to the extent that they fear losing their home, increasing credit card debt cannot be the answer."
Craig Gedey, Group Marketing Manager for The Debt Advisory Line commented: "The one million UK households equates to around 6 per cent of all UK homes. People should be aware that although a credit card is an unsecured debt more and more lenders are approaching the courts in order to have what is called a charging order secured against the borrowers property."
"A charging order secures any unsecured debt against the borrowers property, which means that ultimately people could end up loosing their homes."
