Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWire) -- 04/19/2010 -- Stephen King will be the subject of the controversial lecture, A WORLD OF FRIGHT: Alcoholism and the Work of Stephen King, by Dr. Seth C. Kadish on May 20th, 7:30PM, at Against the Stream Meditation Society at 4300 Melrose Ave. Los Angeles, 90027.

This event follows Stephen King’s appearance the night before, at the 15th Annual Los Angeles Public Library Awards Dinner, where he receives The Literary Award for his enormous contributions to literature since 1965.

Drawing on material from The Shining, and Salem’s Lot, Dr. Kadish connects the similar behaviors of some of King’s characters with alcoholics, addicts and vampires.

As Director of Development for KLEAN West Hollywood, Dr. Seth C. Kadish is the chief architect of a highly successful and innovative dual diagnosis program. Dr. Kadish was Staff Psychologist at California State Prison, counseling maximum-security inmates, and prior to that, worked with probation youth at Penny Lane (where he was named Clinician of the Year 2001). In addition, Dr. Kadish has lectured on forensics, mental health topics and substance abuse issues at conferences, treatment centers and numerous civic organizations.

Attending this seminar are psychologists, Marriage and Family Therapists, social workers, substance abuse counselors, alcoholics, addicts and perhaps even a few vampires. (Beverages being served will be limited to tea and coffee ONLY.)

Admission is $10. The evening is produced by Leonard Buschel and sponsored by KLEAN Treatment Center for the benefit of Writers In Treatment, a 501 (c)(3) non- profit corporation that helps men and women in the writing profession suffering from alcoholism, addiction and other self destructive behaviors get treatment for their disease. Writers In Treatment also produces awareness, educational and prevention programs.

Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Society is located in a historic building in East Hollywood and was founded by author Noah Levine..
