Altamonte Springs, FL -- (SBWire) -- 07/02/2010 -- Dion von Moltke, one of the hottest names in GRAND-AM Racing returns to where it all began for him with Daytona Prototype racing at the Brumos Porsche 250 at Daytona International Speedway at Daytona Beach, FL on July 3rd. Dion has been setting the speedways on fire this season and is second in Rookie of the Year overall and leading all Daytona Prototype drivers. He will be in the #77 McDonalds/PR Newswire/South African Airways Ford Dallara for Doran Racing. This season, the #77 Doran Racing team with Von Moltke leading the way, is currently ninth in points, a mere 18 points out of third place in the championship for GRAND-AM Racing.

"It's been now exactly a year since my first Daytona Prototype race for Doran Racing last year in Daytona, and a year that shows sometimes there are things bigger than racing,” said Dion von Moltke. “Last year was a nightmare weekend with the engine blowing up on the warm up lap, but nothing was as bad as to see my dear friend and manager of Hennie Groenewald who was my co-driver at the time, Carel Pienaar, get a phone call informing him that his teenage daughter had passed away in a car accident in South Africa. Not a day has gone by that I do not think about that day and this weekend I will be pushing extra hard in for Mia. We have a decal on the car honoring her memory, and Doran Racing is dedicating this weekend to her and Carel's family. We have new updates on the car and hopefully we can make Mia proud."

Dion’s exemplary sportsmanship both on and off the track has earned him a dedicated fan base and the admiration of his team mates and fellow drivers. For von Moltke, GRAND-AM Racing isn’t just about the wins and points but the fans and drivers that make the sport one of the most exciting sporting events in North America. This season has been an exciting one already for Dion and this race comes on the heels of a strong performance last weekend at the Emco Gears Classic in Ohio. Von Moltke is keeping up his momentum as well as the young driver is currently 18 points out of the Top-10 in the Driver Championship, ranks 4th in the annual Jim Trueman Award standings and after this weekend is expected to advance even further in the standings.

The July 3rd running of the Brumos Porsche 250 at Daytona International Speedway will be the 100th race for the Daytona Prototypes, the premier class of the GRAND-AM Rolex Series Presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16. The Brumos Porsche 250 race can be viewed live on the SPEED channel, July 3rd at 1:00pm EST.
