Atlanta, GA -- (SBWire) -- 09/21/2010 -- GRAND-AM racing sensation, Dion von Moltke and rising star Matt Bell dazzled racing fans from across the world as the 2010 Rolex Sports Car Series ended this weekend at the Utah 500 at Miller Motorsports Park. Von Moltke and Bell finished in the Top-10 and Dion ended the season at the leading point recipient in 2010 Rookie of the Year Award in the Daytona Prototype class and second in the Jim Trueman Award standings. Dion had an impressive 10 Top-10 finishes out of 12 races on the 2010 season. This was Bell’s second start in the Daytona Prototype series and did not disappoint. He earned for the second time in his two starts the coveted Jim Trueman Award and qualified the #77 McDonalds/South African Airways/PR Newswire Doran Racing Ford Dallara in the Top-8 yet again. Bell was actually pulling double duty in Utah as he was also competing in the Stevenson Motorsports #6 Sunoco Camaro in the Continental Tire Challenge Series. He qualified in pole position and led more than half of that race.
Dion wants to thank his sponsors and his fans for the tremendous support they showed him during the 2010 season. Without the strong support that was shown by his teams’ sponsors – McDonalds, PRNewswire, and South African Airways, he knows the success he had on the track would not have been possible or meaningful. They were more than sponsors, they were partners in his pursuit of the challenge of a very competitive Daytona Prototype class against some of the top teams and drivers in all of racing. This was von Moltke’s first full season of racing in the class and in addition to his sponsors, he credits his success also to his teammates this season – Memo Gidley, Mark Patterson, and Matt Bell.
He is looking forward to a challenging and exciting 2011 season in going head-to-head with some of the best and stiffest competitors in the racing world. He will spend the offseason evaluating his offers and options for 2011 for what will give him the best opportunity for success and ultimately more Championships to his long list of accomplishments. “This was a key year in the development of my professional racing career” Dion continues; “I am now a more solid and experienced driver, have a foundation built on relationships such as PR Newswire and South African Airways, and am supported by a strengthened relationship with P1 Groupe. 2011 will be all about wins, podiums and championships!”
Dion has completed successfully now in every level of GRAND AM racing, including last season’s three wins in the Continental Tire Challenge Series. The skills he showed on track this year is one of the reasons why he is becoming one of the hottest commodities in the racing world.
