Houston, TX -- (SBWire) -- 01/06/2015 --Mercury Well Control (MWC) is announcing the expansion of their well control services into the North Sea market by opening an office in Aberdeen, Scotland. Chad Wilson, Chief Executive Officer, said, "Due to the demand for preventative well control services and better well control training solutions, we feel the timing is right to open the Aberdeen office."
Located in Marywell, MWC will provide local expertise to both operators and drilling contractors in the event of any well control incident. MWC further offers expertise in deepwater drilling and completions engineering services, subsea equipment solutions, specialty advanced HP/HT well control training, real-time critical hole section monitoring (both offshore and in-house support) and documentation services, such as manuals or bridging documents reviews/rewrites. "With resources based in the North Sea region, we are in a better position to service our clients, especially with same time zone conservations and significantly shorter response times should an event occur within Europe, Middle East or Africa," Wilson stated.
The news comes on the heels of a presentation during the 2014 IADC Well Control Europe Conference & Exhibition in Aberdeen where Bill Burch, Executive Vice President of Operations & Engineering, discussed the issues around current well control trends, mistakes made in basic well control operations, poor knowledge retention and lack of lessons learned from incidents. "The responses to my presentation were great and only reinforced that it was time for us to have a base in Scotland as soon as possible," Burch affirmed. "We are in the process of hiring more members for our well control team in Aberdeen and should begin offering training services by the end of the second quarter of 2015, if not sooner."
