Vancouver, BC -- (SBWire) -- 01/12/2015 --One in three North Americans knows someone with a serious eating disorder. Eating Disorders have one of the highest death rates for any of the psychological disorders. Bulimia is often the most harrowing; thrusting sufferers into a vicious cycle of binging/purging that deprives their body of vital nutrients and leading to physical changes that can be life threatening. Recovery from Bulimia has been challenging to find but, through her years of work with clients, and this book with its associated Neuro Linguistic Programming, and Hypnosis approach, a real recovery could now have arrived thanks to author and practitioner, Kathy Welter-Nichols.
'Chasing Hunger' provides readers with a ninety-day 'Bulimia Breakthrough' program that has resulted in complete recovery for many. Through nine challenges, readers are empowered to change destructive patterns of behavior and create new strategies for life. The results are literally-life changing.
"Often the traditional psychology/therapy model treating Bulimia looks for sexual misconduct as the aggravator for eating disorders, and self harm, but my findings are very different," explains Welter-Nichols. "It's actually down to a form of addiction; something victims are introduced to at a very young age, in their teens while the brain is still undergoing massive development. It starts out innocently enough with a restrictive diet, often suggested by friends, books, movies they may have seen, and even in some cases suggestions of coaches and dance instructors. They use large amounts of food binging, and then purge that through vomiting. Getting rid of the food consumed is the focus of the purge. Working with hundreds of clients, each has shared; they enjoy the 'high' it creates.
Over years of secretly using bulimia clients find they are unable to control the addictive behaviors and ultimately find themselves masters of manipulating the truth for themselves and everyone else. Binging and purging multiple times a day, for years takes over the whole life of the person. "My clients include successful people from all levels of society: a Supreme Court Judge, high-ranking lawyers, doctors, nurses, therapists, and even a psychotherapist with her own eating disorder clinic; so it's not just the dancer, actor or artist that is at risk from the illusive game of chasing hunger. In fact my research traces this behavior right back to Ancient Egypt and Roman times so it isn't not a "new strategy" for weight loss and weight control, it's ancient."
As a respected NLP Trainer and Practitioner, Kathy has become acutely aware that NLP offers a wonderful technique for helping people to recognize their patterns of behavior and develop new strategies to interrupt it completely. "It's all about helping them re-map their thought processes toward recovery rather than focusing on the food and the overwhelming compulsion of Bulimia. Dare I say this, but it's actually incredibly simple once you know how the brain stores information and uses our own internal pharmacy –chemicals produced through the brain- to 'anchor' these cravings."
Welter-Nichols' book walks anyone through the strategies she has used to help hundreds of women reclaim their lives. The book exists as a complete program, fusing layman advice with a series of powerful exercises, affirmation cards and MP3s that assist the client during those challenging moments of recovery.
"I wrote this book for the woman who feels like there is no hope, the guy lost in a cycle of binging/purging and even the young schoolgirl who is obsessed with being thin. Or the person that just can't afford retreat centers or has the time to stay in one for several months. This offers some real tools they can use to help themselves.
On that note, one huge goal for this book is to help teachers; coaches and trainers recognize the early stages of bulimia and also build a culture in their programs and classrooms that doesn't reward girls for being thin. The innocent compliment from students or staff can literally be the ember that ignites that mighty flame," Welter-Nichols adds.
Those looking to interrupt the addictive behaviors of bulimia are urged to purchase their copies as soon as possible.
