The Woodlands, TX -- (SBWire) -- 01/20/2015 --Dr. Douglas Inns of Eye Trends in Conroe, Texas introduced today the latest addition to his thriving practice, the OPTOS Retinal Exam with optomap ultra-widefield retinal imaging.

Dr. Inns explains, "The new OPTOS Retinal Scan creates advanced images of your retina, an important part of the eye located at the back of the eye, that captures images of what a person is looking at, in a manner similar to the film in a camera. This is an extremely important part of the eye, and detecting retinal issues early can help prevent further problems in the future. This is one of the reasons that yearly comprehensive eye exams are absolutely essential for continued long-term eye and vision health. As part of your annual check-up, we include an Optomap Retinal Exam. This advanced technology produces a personal retinal image that is as unique as a person's fingerprint. It provides your eye doctor with an incredibly accurate and high definition image that contains extensive information about your overall retinal health."

About Optomap Retinal Exam
The Optomap Retinal Exam provides results that show your eye's overall health. Traditional imaging technologies typically show around 15% of your retina. By contrast, the new Optomap ultra-widefield retinal images boast scanning capabilities to capture around 80% of your retina in a single wide view image. This allows a wider, more advanced view of the retina than ever before. More advanced mapping also increases the ability to detect visual and optical complications earlier that otherwise might result in reduced vision or blindness. Potentially life-threatening conditions may also present symptoms first in the eyes may also be detected by the OPTOS Retinal Scan. These conditions include stroke, cancer, and cardiovascular disease.

The patient experience is fast, easy and comfortable, maximizing patient comfort and convenience. It is suitable for the whole family. Nothing ever touches the surface of the eye and the speed at which the scan is obtained is also good for children who may have a hard time staying still for long periods of time. To have the exam, the patient simply looks into the device, each eye individually, a comfortable flash of light lets the patient know the retinal image has been taken.

After the scan, the captured images are automatically transferred to a computer screen, so that patients are able to view the image and discuss the retinal scan with a doctor at the time of their visit. The scans are saved to your permanent record in the doctor's database to more easily allow viewing and comparison from year to year. This helps our eye doctors track important changes that may be evidence of emerging visual issues.
