Fulton, MO -- (SBWire) -- 04/14/2015 --Dr. J.W. Vann and his staff at VisionArts Eyecare Center in Fulton, MO, were recently recognized as one of the top three eyecare practices in America for 2014 by Transitions Optical. They were honored at the recent Transitions Academy, held January 26-28, in Orlando, FL.

The nominees were judged on a number of criteria including community involvement, staff education and training, and alignment with Transitions Optical's commitment to help patients improve the quality of their lives by enhancing their vision and protecting the health of their eyes. Eyecare practices nationwide were invited to show how well they meet each of the criteria. The top three finalists were invited to represent themselves at the Transitions Academy which brings together leading eye care practitioners from around North America. During the academy, Dr. Vann served on a "best practices panel" where he and the other nominees answered questions for the hundreds in attendance.

Dr. Vann and his staff are thrilled to be acknowledged as a leader in their industry and continue to dedicate themselves to improving the quality of lives through compassionate care, individualized education, and innovative health technology. "I am honored and proud to be recognized for our continued efforts to preserve and protect our patients' vision, as well as our contributions back to our community", commented Dr. Vann. "We strive to improve the quality of our patients' lives through leading-edge technology. Offering Transitions adaptive lenses is perfectly in line with that mission. as they provide 100% UV protection with adaptable lens technology that makes lenses the exact shade they need to be in every situation."

Nothing is more important to VisionArts than promoting healthy sight both in the office and throughout the community. The practice created a not-for-profit organization called Second Sight Friends that raised money to purchase low vision aids for local nursing home residents. In addition to this, it is involved in supporting many other area organizations including Serve, Relay for Life, Susan G. Komen of Mid-Missouri, Buddy Pack, and many more.

"We're particularly proud that the Transitions award recognizes our whole staff's commitment to our community", said Dr. Vann. He added "Giving back to our local charities and schools and reaching out to educate our community on eye health is the least we can do. The organizations to which we contribute are all part of what makes Callaway County a place that my family and I are proud to call home."

Visionarts is particularly involved in assisting the younger members of the community. It participated in the YMCA's Healthy Kids Days, educating 2nd and 3rd graders on eye health. At Serve's Back to School fair, they distributed "Eye Didn't Know That" books and pencils to nearly 800 children. Last May, they held an event called the "Great Glasses Play Day" to celebrate children who wear glasses, patches, or contact lenses. The event was a rousing success and will now become an annual community event. Inside the office they provide a free 'Eyefood for Kids" book to every family with children under age 12. Dr. Vann also frequently gives seminars at the office and throughout the community that focus on eye health and wellness.
