Ilorin, Kwara -- (SBWire) -- 06/30/2015 --In June 2015, Touch of Light, a non-profit organization in Nigeria took the giant step to launch an Indiegogo campaign to help develop the rural communities in Nigeria. The company is providing Solar Electricity a safe and clean alternative energy that helps to reduce the over dependence of the poor people in the rural areas on kerosene and gas. This will go a long way to reduce poverty and eradicate diseases among rural dwellers in Nigeria, the giant of Africa.

Many people in Nigeria, especially people in the rural communities find it very difficult to meet basic electricity supply needs, and many of them are exposed to many serious health hazards resulting from exposure to kerosene and gas fumes. Rural dwellers in Nigeria are very low income earners and since about 30-50 percent of their hard-earned income is consumed by these two chemicals they are left in abject poverty. Unfortunately they get little or no help from the government.

Why Solar Electricity?

Fortunately Nigeria is situated in the Sub-Saharan African region, a region having the best solar power resources. Despite the huge 485 mega-watt-hour of solar energy we receive daily and an average of 6.2 hours of sunshine everyday, about sixty(60) percent of Nigerian's 170 million people do not have access to electricity supply.

Nigeria's main sources of electricity are hydro and gas but due to many issues in the electricity sector the country is generating far less than its installed capacity.

What We Are Doing

In order to help reduce abject poverty created by over dependence of rural dwellers of Nigeria on kerosene and gas, we have started on our renewable energy generation project called Solar Energy for Rural Communities in Nigeria.

We started in December 2014 at Aladere Mogaji village in Kwara state, Nigeria, using our own funds and the funds we raised from friends and families. In June 2015, we began work at Araromi-Ogbe, another village in Ifelodun, Kwara State.

Why we need your help

With your help we can help many more villages! Solar energy is the most abundant energy source in Nigeria. Now is the right time to help. We started by providing solar lighting points for the rural communities and, with your help, we can do much more. You too can help to save lives by contributing to our disease eradication, poverty and global warming reduction initiative. Our end goal is to reduce the over dependence of Africa in general on kerosene and gas.

In exchange for pledging your support to our project, we have a variety of rewards. Please visit the Indiegogo page for detail of rewards.
