Astoria, NY -- (SBWire) -- 12/13/2010 -- Northern-Spy Records, Brooklyn’s fastest growing indie, is proud to announce the signing of Bird Names to their diverse roster of artists. Stately yet shadowed in the pop music underground, Bird Names has been chopping at their tree since 2005. They have three previous well-acclaimed releases inspired by imagination, ambiguous intuition, a light-hearted spirit of play, and the certainty of death. After a long stint holding it down in the Chicago experimental scene, Bird Names recently relocated to the breezy living of Athens, GA.

February 22, 2011 will be a shiny new day as Bird Names first full-length recording for the Brooklyn indie Northern-Spy Records is released. The album, Metabolism: A Salute to the Energy of the Sun, was created meticulously over the course of many moons and spiritual awakenings in sunny Chicago, IL. The album is a fully-realized reflection on the sun and the fount of organic energy, or human energies, as the speech of the sun. Mastered by Griffin Rodriguez (Icy Demons, Beirut, Band of Horses), it is 12 songs of Beach Boys Smiley Smile, psychedelic rhythms, and dense, lo-fi pop songcraft at its finest.

Bird Names will embark on an extensive month-long tour beginning on the Feb 22 release date in Asheville, NC, climbing the Southeast to the Northeast, dropping in at Richmond, Baltimore, Philly, NYC, Boston, Northhampton, Ithaca, and Pittsburgh. Then through the Midwest to the South by Southwest seeing Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Columbia, MO, St. Louis, Nashville, Memphis, Dallas, Austin, Houston, New Orleans, Birmingham and Atlanta. Check the website, northern-spy.com, for complete dates and venue information and get in on the joy.
