Rumson, NJ -- (SBWire) -- 01/12/2011 -- Hyundai of St. Augustine is proud to announce some exciting news for Jacksonville Hyundai drivers and fans. Four Hyundai models have been named as a 2011 Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The Hyundai Sonata, Genesis, Santa Fe and Tucson were each named as a Top Safety Pick for 2011.
The honor of being chosen as a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS means that the car is among the safest on the road. To be chosen as one, the car must have a “good” rating in Institute tests for protecting people in front, side, rollover and rear crashes and have electronic stability control, which is a crash avoidance feature that significantly reduces crash risk. A new test added last rear requires a “good” rating in a roof strength test as well.
Car shoppers looking for a new Hyundai in Jacksonville can find models of these great, safe vehicles now at Hyundai of St. Augustine.
Jacksonville Hyundai drivers are sure to love the 2011 Hyundai Sonata, which has been receiving high safety marks all around.
The Transportation Department is currently making changes to the government's existing 5-Star Safety Rating System that will make it more difficult for new cars and trucks to earn top scores, which will result in safer cars for occupants. The new safety ranking system adds an overall score and considers crash-prevention technologies and a new test that simulates a car striking a pole to make a more accurate ranking. The overall score is created by combining the results of front, side and rollover tests and comparing those results with average risk of injury and the potential for vehicle rollover of other vehicles.
Not of 2011 model have been tested in this system- and very few have received the top ranking of five stars. The 2011 Sonata, available now at Hyundai of St. Augustine, is one of first vehicles tested rating system to achieve the highest rating of five stars.
“Safety is a top priority at Hyundai, and you really see that with the 2011 Sonata,” said John Krafcik, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America. “The all-new Sonata was the first mid-size car to receive a five-star crash test rating under NHTSA’s new, more stringent 2011 system. The combination of the NHTSA five-star rating and the IIHS Top Safety Pick honor puts Sonata in a safety position unsurpassed in the industry.”
2011 models of all of Hyundai’s 2011 Top Safety Picks- the Sonata, Genesis, Santa Fe and Tucson- are available now at Hyundai of St. Augustine, which serves Jacksonville Hyundai shoppers.
