Guangzhou, Guangdong -- (SBWire) -- 02/16/2011 -- Organized by CCM International Ltd., China Crop Protection Summit (CCPS) 2011 will be held on March 18th to 19th in 2011 at Ramada Plaza Gateway, Shanghai, China. As an ideal platform for obtaining the latest market information and networking for key industrial leaders, CCPS covers most of the current hot topics related to crop protection industry. The summit consists of half a day pre-conference workshops and one and a half days conference. One of the workshops, M&A in China’s pesticide industry, is underway.
After several decades of fast development, China’s pesticide industry is now entering the adjustment period. Many companies are now positively pursuing cooperation opportunities in a bid to enhance their competitiveness. In China, M&A of pesticide industry mainly covers three ways: 1) M&A of whole production chain of upstream and downstream; 2) M&A among similar types of corporations; 3) M&A between manufacturers and distributers. However, there are also considerable concerns on cooperation compatibility, resource combination, etc.
Since Chinese government released the “Pesticide Industrial Policy” in August 2010, big moves of M&A has sprung up. In September 2010, Zhejiang Wynca Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. spends USD12 million to acquire 75% of Ningxia Tianxi Science and Technology Co., Ltd. With continuous advancement, competitiveness of pesticide manufacturers in China will surely get boosted in the future. At the same time, pressure will be imposed on some MNCs business.
The workshop leader of M&A in China’s pesticide industry underway will be Dr. Norman Kim Hung Lai, who has worked for Sinochem Fertilizer, BASF, CK Lifesciences, Sicpa Printing Inks, Zeneca and ICI, etc. Norman received bachelor degree in agricultural engineering from National Taiwan University. He worked in Agricultural and Fisheries Department as Field Officer responsible for pesticide regulatory enforcement. He joined ICI in 1989 and started his crop protection life. Recently, he has also received a doctorate in business administration from the University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia.
