Bend, OR -- (SBWire) -- 03/02/2011 --GL Solutions announced a new contract with long-time client Illinois Department of Public Health to build a new management system to monitor the abatement of asbestos.

The Illinois Department’s Division of Environmental Health works to reduce the incidence of disease and injury related to environmental factors, and is responsible for rulemaking, plan reviews, construction permits, inspections, vocational and facility licensing, engineering and toxicological reports across the state of Illinois.

GL Solutions provides expert regulatory software known as "GL Suite". GL Suite provides an effective software and database system for government agencies to manage licenses and automate registrations, credentialing, permitting, certification, compliance and enforcement activities. This software solution is already being used by the Department of Public Health in Illinois to manage swimming pools, plumbing, water wells, private sewage and structural pest control regulation programs.

Asbestos, once a commonly used building material installed in schools and commercial buildings, is considered a serious indoor air pollutant with links to such serious respiratory diseases as asbestosis, mesothelioma, and lung cancer. The Division reviews asbestos management plans for Illinois' commercial and public buildings, inspects abatement projects to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, and regulates the training and annual licensing of over 10,000 persons in various disciplines who perform asbestos-related activities.

The Asbestos Abatement Program’s new system, projected to go live Fall of 2011, will represent the Illinois Department of Public Health’s largest instance of GL Suite in terms of complexity and business processes. Several currently segmented, or “siloed”, databases will be merged into an “all-in-one” system by GL Solutions for use by agency staff and constituents.

“GL Solutions has worked on several implementations over the years and this is one of the larger ones in regards to scope and size for this Department,” said Steve Wood, Agency Partner at GL Solutions, “We appreciate the opportunity and look forward to working with the Asbestos Abatement Program staff to help futher automate and advance the Department’s programs.”
