Glendale, AZ -- (SBWire) --06/09/2011 --For decades, team sports participation has been in a decline, which has led to a rise in health problems among children. In fact, 32 percent of United States youth are considered obese or overweight. This is why Sanderson Ford has teamed up with Doug and Wolf’s Gear Up for Kids to provide sports equipment to the Boys & Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix.
The Boys & Girls Club provides over 10 sports leagues, such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, and flag football, for Phoenix youth to participate in each year. This adds up to over 18,000 hours of sports and activities, as well as nutritional programming to help kids stay active and healthy.
These activities not only help kids keep fit, but they also keep them off the streets. Youth who play sports are 57 percent less likely to drop out of school, 92 percent less likely to be involved in drugs, and more likely to graduate high school than those who do not. Female athletes are also less likely to have an unwanted pregnancy than non-athletes.
This is why Sanderson Ford, along with Sanderson Lincoln and Sanderson Volvo, is proud to present the 3rd annual Doug and Wolf’s Gear Up for Kids equipment drive. Stop by Sanderson Ford now through June 23 and drop of any new or used sports equipment. Requested items include basketballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, baseballs, footballs, catcher’s gear, baseball bats, helmets, ball bags, and much more. This equipment is essential to the Boys & Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix’s sports leagues and will help keep them running, which in turn, will keep Phoenix youth off the streets.
