Westerville, OH -- (SBWire) -- 01/06/2016 --The World Health Organization has recently expressed its great concern with regards to the increasing number of teens and young adults who are susceptible to develop hearing loss. It cannot be denied that the ears are an invaluable part of the body that if a person has an impaired hearing, it would greatly affect their work performance as well as their relationship with their family and friends.
The risk for the development of hearing loss on teens and young adults due to excessive noise has increased by 30% over the past years. According to a board-certified ear, nose and throat physician, one of the major causes of this health condition is the audio accessories that people put in their ears, particularly the headphones and earphones.
With the constant improvement on the technology that uses audio devices, what most health experts fear is the circulation of numerous substandard audio accessories that most people buy in the market because of the price. As much as possible, they recommend quality-made audio accessories since these devices are used and are close to the eardrum, an essential part of the ear.
According to the analysis of World Health Organization, 50% of the people that aged 12 to 35 years old tend to listen to unsafe sound levels of their personal devices while the other 40% are highly exposed to damaging levels of noise and music coming from the environment. Also, it was found that exposure to 100 decibels noise level to no more than 15 minutes is found to be safe, but beyond that could be damaging to the ears.
To raise the awareness of the impending danger of listening to damaging levels of sounds, a campaign has been launched and it is called The Noisy Planet. This campaign was launched by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders in aims to give the advice to prevent hearing loss and also to educate the parents with the importance of protecting their children's ears.
For the NIDCD deputy director Melissa McGowan, parents can protect their children's hearing by ensuring that their children are listening to low volume sounds, and are wearing ear protectors like earplugs and earmuffs. In line with this, audio accessories manufacturers like Schultz Electronics encourage people to only buy earphones and headphones that are made from quality materials.
Choosing carefully the headphones is very important because the hearing capability of the ears depends on it. And so as much as possible, parents should be wary with what they buy or give to their children especially items that are plugged in the ears.
