Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWire) -- 05/20/2016 --Scribblings is an 11-minute psychological thriller by South Africa's Antagonist Studios, written and directed by Oscar Barby. The film tells the story of three characters caught up in a love triangle; Jack, a struggling writer, Viva, his girlfriend and Blanca, his new lodger. Jack takes in this sexy new lodger just to foot the bills. When she slowly begins moving into his life, their relationship starts spinning out of control.
Richard Lothian, casting director for Antagonist Studios, secured great actors for this short film. Francis Chouler (Book of Negroes) plays Jack; Chi Mhende, who bagged Best Actress in the Durban International Film Festival, plays Viva with Blanca being played by Gahlia Phillips. The film was shot by cinematographer W. Le Sueur and was first screened on 26 October 2015. The entire team went above and beyond in their professionalism and dedication to bring Scribblings to life on the screen and this team's hard work has been worth it. This is a film that works.
Scribblings is Oscar Barby's first completed short film. Commenting on the film, "Scribblings deals with a pressing issue within creativity; how lost should you be to find what you are creating? This film's idea came about when I started losing myself in my own writing for one of my features called Mosaic. I would find myself locked up inside my office for several days, ignoring everyone and everything else around me. Such is the life of struggling writers." He added that "This idea came to life four months later, once the no-budget shoot started, and everyone knows the heartbreak and excitement that no-budget shooting entails! So many things were said, so many things shouted and at times nothing needed to be said at all."
"Where are we going from here? In September 2016, we commence shooting for my third short film, Promised Land, a post-apocalyptic fantasy piece. Thereafter, I will complete development and packaging on two features that I have written, Poppie and Blood Moon."
Commenting on Scribblings, Amrish Shah, the short film's co- producer: "This was my first project with Oscar and I found it intriguing how well he showcases different themes such as multiple personalities, anxiety and writer's anguish within in a short film. I am excited to see how the world will respond to it! I would like to extend a special thank you to everyone at Sinkwa Productions, Bounce Board Productions, Antagonist Studios, Media Film Service Cape Town and Truth Coffee for making this happen.'
Scribblings will also be screening at the Palais H Theater on May 18th at 11.30 A.M.
