The Cost of a Universal Theme Park Trip on the Rise

Melbourne, FL -- (SBWire) -- 02/16/2016 --Walt Disney World recently raised its ticket prices for Magic Kingdom to $105. For the other three parks, the price remains at $97. Following the Magic Kingdom increase, though, Universal Orlando, too, raised the price of its tickets to $105. All prices listed are for one-day ticket passes. For Universal Orlando, this is a three-dollar increase. The one-day tickets used to cost $102, and only went to that amount last February. Along with the one-day pass, the two-week park-to-park pass went up $8, now selling at $155. These increases came after Disney World increased their own prices both times.

This is nothing new. Universal Orlando has a history of raising their prices following increases with Disney. This is why people typically look to Disney to figure out future pricings. They lead the way. While some other parks will not attempt to compete with pricing, such as SeaWorld due to controversy related to a recent documentary and individuals speaking out against them, these two remain at the same price for most tickets. This is why news of potential pricing changes at Disney has people talking.

Disney plans to do pricing increases across the board. This includes annual passes and passes that give visitors full-year access to the park. Along with the pass increases, Disney plans to increase prices depending on the time of year. High traffic times, like Christmas or Spring Break, will cost more for visitors due to their higher popularity and the increased demand. It is possible that we will see Universal Orlando follow in Disney's footsteps here.

Currently, however, Universal Orlando has no plans to increase their annual ticket prices, keeping them at $215 for the basic pass. Recent talks of potential price increases at Disney are not affecting the price of the annual pass for visitors. Universal Orlando views this as a way for visitors who plan to come by regularly to save money. As time and inflation persists Orlando amusement parks prices have always gone up.

When asked about the price increases, Universal Orlando responded:

"We set our prices to reflect the value of the experience we provide our guests, and we provide the greatest value where our guests tell us it matters most – with our popular multi-day tickets and vacation packages. Guests who use multi-day tickets or packages can save as much as $40 off our single day ticket price."

According to Universal Orlando, no other plans are in the works for increases as of yet. Current prices will remain the same until stated otherwise.
