South Bay, CA -- (SBWire) -- 08/28/2014 --While most new authors use their first novel to simply test the literary waters, Chess Desalls is rapidly proving that a debut release is also an opportunity to rival a genre’s bestsellers. ‘Travel Glasses’ forms part one of the wider ‘The Call to Search Everywhen’ series; a teen literary adventure where a frame and two lenses doubles as the key to compelling time travel.
Synopsis:
When an ethereal being knocks Calla to the ground near her family’s lakeside cottage, Valcas helps her to escape by traveling to another place and time. At first, Calla is as intrigued by the otherworldly Valcas as she is by his method of time travel: an altered pair of sunglasses that enable the wearer to search for anyone or anywhere in the past, present or future. That is until she suspects that his search for her was no mere coincidence.
With her trust broken, Calla sets off on her own, taking the Travel Glasses with her. Torn between searching for her estranged father and reuniting with the rest of her family, she tracks down the inventor of the Travel Glasses in hopes of discovering more about Valcas’ past and motivations. With Valcas hot on her trail, Calla hopes to find what she’s looking for before he catches up.
The Call to Search Everywhen is a serial series made up of novel-length installments.
“Time travel has been a staple of the literary world for generations, and it’s time we shake it up, particularly at a time when more young people are becoming interested,” explains Desalls. “I wanted to write a story that could be followed and enjoyed by younger readers as well as adults. But that doesn’t mean the book isn’t without its intricate concepts. Readers get to experience the world as Calla does, including all of its adventure, confusion and wonder.”
Continuing, “It’s been a whirlwind since we released the book, with successes I never thought possible. Travel Glasses has appeared multiple times in the ‘Top 50’ on Amazon’s bestseller lists for teen time travel ebooks. Actress Natalie Winters has just wrapped up the recording of a very vivid audiobook which we plan to release on September 17th. Her exceptional voice is perfect for telling my story; the two elements will work together to engross young readers in a fresh new way.”
Readers have flocked in their droves to leave positive reviews. For example, a Goodreads and NetGalley reviewer commented, “Travel Glasses by Chess Desalls is a great book for fans of time travelling and impressive world building and after this, you’ll never find a cooler pair of glasses again."
A fellow Goodreads member adds, “Chess has written a page turner; from the first page I was gripped by her storytelling. I love the idea of glasses for time travel. And the characters, people she writes about, are so real to me that I am emotionally involved in the story."
