Santa Monica, CA -- (SBWire) -- 07/22/2014 --ApplyMap, a new app designed to help high school students maximize their college chances, has announced that they are undertaking a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo. The company is aiming to raise $15,000 or more in order to build a special version of the site for non-profit organizations.
The company’s IndieGoGo campaign raised over five thousand dollars from donors within 12 hours of its launch. As a result of this unprecedented support, ApplyMap is now looking to set stretch funding goals that will allow them to help sponsor even more high school students.
ApplyMap was introduced through a fundraising campaign video featuring CEO Steve Palley, which takes students’ grades and other key data to match them to a set of schools that are then broken down into dream, reach, match and safety, so students can apply to a range of schools that resolve both their current position and their ambitions.
By providing the solution free to underserved communities using non-profit educational outreach programs as the delivery system, the company is creating possibilities for people to take control of their academic future according to the variables that matter most to them, in a way that may well not be possible for them otherwise.
Steve Palley, CEO of ApplyMap, explained, “As a company and as citizens of this country, we’re determined to do everything we can to fight educational inequality. That’s why every donation to our campaign goes straight into providing high quality college advice to those who need it most. By being able to provide this resource for free to non-profits working in disadvantaged areas, we allow people the best chance of optimizing their approach to their future, generating success at the most fundamental level that will then allow students to define their own futures going forward.”
ApplyMap’s main nonprofit partner for the campaign is the Central American Resource Center (CARECEN), which has been working with the Hispanic community in Los Angeles for 31 years.
“CARECEN believes that every child deserves access to higher education, yet college advising resources in LAUSD high schools continue to diminish,” said CARECEN College Head Start Coordinator Victoria Dominguez. “ApplyMap’s technological support will help us boost college readiness for hundreds of underserved students in the Pico Union, Westlake and Koreatown areas of Los Angeles.”
