London, UK -- (SBWire) -- 01/11/2017 --Removals companies in Manchester may need to start sending their staff on courses to learn Mandarin and Cantonese – or else hire some Chinese-speaking employees. That's according to removals comparison site buzzmove.com.
"Manchester is a great area for us, where we have lots of customers looking to move," says buzzmove CEO Becky Downing. "Usually the search volumes of people looking to move are seasonal, peaking in July or August and then steadily declining for the rest of the year. But in 2016 we've seen search volumes stay pretty consistent. That's unusual – and great news for Manchester removal companies," Becky adds.
Increasing interest from Chinese buyers could be the key reason for this sustained interest in removals in the city. The online Chinese property portal Juwai.com reports that in November 2016, the number of Chinese buyers seeking property in Manchester had shot up by 54% compared with the same period the year before. The interest seems to be as a result of the fall in the value of the pound in the wake of the UK's Brexit vote over the summer. Juwai.com added that Chinese buyers' interest in Manchester property rose 40% in the month following the Brexit vote.
The result of the devaluation of the pound means that "a number of investors see the UK as an excellent option," said Rhys Whalley, executive director of the Manchester-China Forum.
"In the real world, we're not really expecting a huge influx of Chinese buyers in Manchester any time soon," Becky adds. "But with the increased inward investment in the area, we would expect demand for removal companies to increase in 2017, both for higher net worth home moves and for commercial moves. That means more high-paying work for our removal companies, which is great news for them."
