P.I.N.K Detroit, Incorporated Hosts Annual Prom Dress Drive

As featured on "The Style Files" on Fox 2 News Detroit, P.I.N.K Detroit, Incorporated is a mentoring program centered on the development of schoolaged young women (1st – 12th grades) and revitalization of the city of Detroit. Founded in 2012, P.I.N.K. Detroit, Inc. aims to prevent the participants from becoming teenage mothers, experimenting with drugs and alcohol, being victims of domestic violence, falling prey to peer pressure, failing academically, and suffering from low selfesteem. Each of our mentors work diligently to provide participants with a healthy environment needed the for girls to grow as individuals, prosper academically, and build positive relationships on their journey to become successful young women.
In May of 2012, the "Glitz & Glam Prom Affair" was created as an opportunity for less fortunate girls to have an opportunity to attend their Senior Prom despite their financial circumstances. A wide selection of gently used prom dresses are donated every year from individuals in the community, businesses, boutiques, dress designers and other nonprofit organizations across the state of Michigan. But of course we don't just stop here… P.I.N.K also partners with professional hair stylists, nail technicians, and makeup artists to ensure our girls have an unforgettable experience in their P.I.N.K journey. These volunteers render their services not just for Prom day but they do a full consultation so each girl feels that her special moment is crafted by the right team for her big day.
This year, the dress drive kicked off on Saturday, February 13, 2016 and will end on Thursday, April 28, 2016. Since the beginning P.I.N.K. Detroit. Inc. has continued long term relationships with Swank and A Diva's Everything to collect used prom gowns, evening gowns or formal (after 5) gowns, shoes and accessories.
The 5th Annual Glitz & Glam Prom Affair will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at SM Event Designs & Rentals located at 15684 E. 8 Mile Road, Detroit, MI 48094 from 11:00am until 4:00pm. All of the dresses, shoes, and accessories are given away on a first come, first serve basis. Picture ID and proof that a recipient is indeed a senior in high school will be required to receive a dress.
