Roswell, GA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/07/2015 -- Apple mobile payments and digital wallet service Apple Pay, was off to a great start this year, according to chief executive Tim Cook. But now that year is almost at an end, the projections are looking better than expected. ShopKeep's most recent survey of its 20,000 merchant clients shows that about 26% of respondents had accepted an Apple Pay transaction by the end of September, compared to 2.5% in February.However, the company is only looking at this as a small step in the right direction as it still has much growth to do in the mobile payments space. A survey conducted in the mid of 2015, by Pymnts.com and InfoScout found that only 15% of consumers who were eligible to use Apple Pay had tried to actually use it, which was projected to roughly 3 million -3.6 million people in the U.S, or about 1% of the population.
"The transactions running through Apple Pay are in a month over month growth rate of about 58%, and this is not just from a small base," ShopKeep CEO Norm Merritt has stated. "We have seen a really dramatic increase in the usage of Apple Pay."
Last week, Apple has also announced its plans to lunch Apple Pay in second largest market, China in early 2016. Apple Pay was introduced to Europe and Australia earlier this year. Entry into Chinese market is never easy for any company, however in case of Apple 30% of its sales are already coming from China. The company has also reported that it apparently partnered with China's largest state-run banks, though details of partnership are not yet available. However it's fair to assume that Apple Pay stands a good chance of succeeding in China.
