Being Prepared for Storm Damage

Hurricane season officially comes to an end on November 30 which means there is still a possible risk of a storm emerging and hitting Florida. Being prepared can be hugely beneficial should a storm cause to a home or property.

Miami, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/11/2019 -- One way to take preventative measures early is by making a video or photo inventory of belonging in and outside of the home, preferably with a timestamp or date showing when the pictures were taken or the video was filmed. A spreadsheet can help with keeping track of details like an item's purchase date and cost, model number, and any warranty information, particularly useful for major appliances. A cloud storage solution such as Google Drive can be used to keep the information safely stored or a weatherproof box can work too. By doing a home inventory, it will be much simpler to request cash or replacement value from the insurance provider.

After a storm, documenting the damage extensively is important. As soon as it is safe to do so, take pictures or video of every square inch of the property, including the roof. Make a note of any damage no matter how small it may be. Do not dispose of any damaged property as this may prove useful for the insurance company to inspect and it can also be used as proof of loss.
