Written from both the heart and frustrations of Paul DioGuardi, Queens Counsel , ‘Never Smile at a Crocodile’ condenses the career adventures of an indomitable tax lawyer into a whimsical collection of personal insights that reveal what really goes on behind the closed doors of the Canada Revenue Agency. Fusing side-splitting anecdotes with vital insights and life-saving tax advice, DioGuardi confesses much of what he has seen and experienced in his 50 years as a tax lawyer, proving that a life in tax is far from yawn-worthy. The author is currently inviting any and all media outlets in Toronto and the GTA to host an entertaining interview in October of 2014.
Mississauga, ON -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/18/2014 -- Aside from the Beatles’ 1966 hit or the annual delivery of a (seemingly shrinking) refund cheque, everyone knows that tax is a dull and drab topic that deserves its reputation. Hold fire! Canada’s best known Tax lawyer is back again, proving once and for all that tax and the CRA is as full of crazy stories, unlikely anecdotes and gripping debates as any other industry.
Paul DioGuardi last showcased the insight scoop on tax in 2008 with the release of ‘The TaxMan is Watching’, which gave thousands of Canadians their first real education into the truths of the Canada Revenue Agency and your lifelong relationship with tax. DioGuardi is now following up with ‘Never Smile at a Crocodile: Confessions of a Tax Traveller’, sharing tales too wild and fantastic to be anything but true.
Synopsis
You have never read a tax book like this!
A companion piece to The TaxMan is Watching (Harper Collins Canada, 2008), Never Smile at a Crocodile captures the spirit of adventure that inspired a young and fearless lawyer to devote his practice years to tax.
Paul DioGuardi, tax lawyer and accomplished teller of tales, shares adventures of a life which proves that tax, contrary to the popular misconception, is anything but dull. His anecdotes are intermingled with insights and advice on tax issues of relevance to all taxpayers.
In over 48 years of practice, Paul has experienced the best and worst of the Canada Revenue Agency from both sides of the smiling crocodile’s jaws. From the inside looking out, as a litigator at the CRA, and then as Department of Justice Counsel for the CRA; and from the taxpayer’s point of view, as Senior Tax Counsel at DioGuardi Tax Law, a national tax resolution and litigation law firm with offices in Toronto and Ottawa. The DioGuardi Tax Law’s library of case files are unequalled in the practice of Canadian taxpayer resolutions.
If you thought tax was only for accountants, this book will change your mind.
“People always sit up and listen when I tell them that I’ve written a memoir-style book about my life as a tax lawyer,” admits DioGuardi. “The truth is that tax does have its near-misses, unfathomable characters and industry politics that make for compelling reading. This book doesn’t hold back and exposes them all!”
Continuing, “Aside from my career’s quips and insights, I also provide sound advice that every taxpayer and business needs to hear. Let’s address them in an entertaining arena before you make a mistake and the CRA comes knocking. Believe me – you may offer the inspectors coffee, but you’ll secretly be needing gin just to get through the experience.”
DioGuardi is passionate about sharing his stories and is actively looking to provide content and air-time for any and all Toronto/GTA media outlets this coming October.
“The book makes for a hilarious interview or call-in; perfect for those on their way to work who need something to read or listen to that will give them tons to talk about at the water cooler. The general public are quick to pass off tax and its cohorts as emotionally bankrupt. I can prove quite the opposite.”
The author’s second book, ‘The TaxMan is Watching’, garnered critical acclaim, sitting on the non-fiction best-seller list for 10 consecutive weeks . For example, Jonathan Chevreau of Financial Post commented, “If you've been hiding under-ground fearing discovery by the CRA, this book is an essential guide on how to come clean. It's primarily for those already in trouble, or potential trouble, with the taxman. For those who are not, and wish to retain that status, other guides aim to help us keep as much money for ourselves as possible -- within the letter of the law.”
The Globe and Mail’s Rebecca Dube added, “The father-and-son team say they hope to disabuse Canadians of the notion that the Canada Revenue Agency is on their side. Armed with horror stories about overzealous tax agents and naive taxpayers (or tax non-payers), they're on a mission to incite what they say is a healthy fear of the taxman...”
‘Never Smile at a Crocodile: Confessions of a Tax Traveller’ is due for imminent release. Secure an interview/feature with the author today.
