Chefs Connection Announces Job Board for Chefs and Other Restaurant Personnel

Job site eliminates the need to wade through irrelevant listings in order to find work as a chef, reports Chefs Connection

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/13/2014 -- Job hunting just got easier for chefs thanks to the Chefs Connection industry job board at chefsconnection.com. This site takes the hassle out of seeking work in the restaurant business by limiting its offerings to openings for chefs, restaurant managers, and related openings.

"Job hunting is often considered work in itself, and one of the reasons that it has this reputation is because it can be hard to find suitable openings in a list of unrelated jobs," said Alan Battman of Chefs Connection. "Even on sites where they are supposed to be categorized by industry, enough get misplaced that a job hunter can find him- or herself looking through plenty of irrelevant results. We realized that it'd be easier to connect people with employers if we limited our site to just one industry. The restaurant industry was chosen because it can be especially hard to find openings for chefs."

While a quick look at Chefs Connection shows that there are openings for positions other than chef, the site is indeed tightly focused on restaurant positions. There are many managerial positions open, along with slots for bakers and product development chefs. Openings for many different types of chef also exist, including ones for sous chef, line chef, and pastry chef. Specialized positions, such as saucier, lightly pepper the listings.

One of the reasons it can seem hard for chefs to find positions is that most restaurants only hire a few of them, while they seem to constantly need new servers and dishwashers. This is frustrating because every restaurant has to have at least one or two chefs and a few more line cooks, yet pounding the pavement is likely to yield no results. An industry-specific site brings the openings that exist together into one list, which greatly increases the efficiency of a chef's job search. Instead of pounding the pavement, job-seekers can just click through the listings to find openings in many different cities and states.

The first-ever online job site opened in 1995, when six major newspapers banded together to post their job classifieds online. The next year, Monster.com hit the public eye with a Super Bowl ad. These early attempts, however, were little better than looking through old-fashioned classified ads. Improvements in categorization came, but reading the ads still required parsing out the important parts from often-unrelated fluff text.

"A visit to jobs.thechefsconnection.com shows how things have changed," Battman said. "On our site, a reader can instantly see what each ad is for, who's hiring, and the restaurant's city and state. There is no irrelevant text to wade through to find this basic information. Once interesting ads are spotted, job-hunters can click them to get all of the information and decide whether or not to apply. This greatly streamlines the process and makes things much faster and easier for all."
