Drivers that don’t wear their seat belt when they’re out and about may wish to be extra careful when navigating the Florida roads! A number of Florida police departments across recently kicked off the “Click It or Ticket” seat belt campaign. During this campaign, law enforcement officers will be upping their patrol until the 2nd of June as more drivers are expected to be out on the roads because of the recent Memorial Day weekend.
Miami, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/30/2019 -- According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 10,000 passenger vehicle occupants died in crashes in the United States in 2017. During this same year, more than fifty percent of occupants that lost their lives during the evening hours were found to be unbuckled. A major goal of the Click It or Ticket campaign is to reinforce the importance of wearing a seatbelt during the evening hours. Officers are using a zero-tolerance approach in seatbelt enforcement, no matter what the time of day is.
In Florida, driving without a seat belt on is a primary offense, which means an officer can legally pull a driver over if they are caught not wearing it. All vehicle passengers are required by law to wear their seat belt.
