A new drug, thought to be beneficial in the treatment of obesity, has been approved by the FDA. Patients who are prescribed liraglutide, or Saxenda, for weight loss must have at least one other weight-related health condition. Because of many insurance companies' hesitancy to approve this newly released drug, however, as well as the high out of pocket expense to patients, sales have fallen short of the manufacturers' expectations.
