Brooklyn, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/31/2016 -- Critics are praising Exquisite Corpse Company's The Enchanted Realm of Rene Magritte. The original immersive production, helmed by director Tess Howsam, has played to sold out houses for the first portion of its limited run. It continues this weekend thru September 25 in House 17 on Governors Island.
The show was recently featured on Vice's The Creators Project as "An immersive play that puts you inside the mind of the surrealist artist." Brooklyn-based's Regina Mogilevskaya called it a "skillfully envisioned interactive piece of theatre…the art direction deserves a standing ovation for the ingenious design of the house's eight rooms." Raphael Badagliacca (Front Row Center) notes that the play features "show-stopping lines of exquisite beauty about time, place, death, life, art, self, and the world." Carole di Tosti (BlogCritics) wrote the "multifaceted actors that showed their mettle" while touting creator and director, Tess Howsam, as being one with "irrepressible ingenuity" leading to an "extravagent and mind-blowing play about Magritte, sure to delight and mystify you."
About The Enchanted Realm of Rene Magritte
Center to the performance is one house, belonging to one René Magritte, surrealist, painter, philosopher, lover, cowboy, tree, and much more. Patrons are encouraged to swim on down and enjoy a guided tour of the great man's mind, run their fingers along the dust of his memories, appraise the net worth of his melancholy heart -- with the aid of his wife, his lover, his wife's lover, his mother, and a fish.
Inspired by the work of surrealist painter, The Enchanted Realm of Rene Magritte features a performance and installation set in an 8 room mansion on Governors Island. An original immersive experience, The Enchanted Realm of Rene Magritte is directed by Tess Howsam (Secession 2015, Odd.A.See) and features a team of eight playwrights, a multi-talented group of actors, and collaborations with other Governors Island resident organizations - Billion Oyster Project & Creative Movement. Exquisite Corpse is happy to hold your hand as you take a dip, then a dive, then a plunge into The Enchanted Realm of, well, you know who.
