New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/17/2013 -- In the wake of recent news story by Ritsuko Ando published on October 29 on reuters.com regarding Nokia which predicted a more lucrative future for its NSN networks equipment business raising optimism for growth in what will be the Finnish company’s key business after its former premier phone unit is sold to Microsoft in a $5.2 billion deal in 2014.

The reuters.com news story indicates that Nokia’s third-quarter result also indicated growth in Lumia smartphone sales, but analysts said Microsoft will still confront a hard time in establishing itself into the competitive consumer devices market with the Nokia acquisition which is set to be finalized sometime in the first quarter.

“Despite selling its flagship phone division to Microsoft, Nokia can still find a lucrative means of surviving,” says DigitalOlympus.com spokesperson. “The firm can find a niche in other markets and partner with firms that specialize in phone systems equipment.”

Furthermore, the reuters.com news story points that sale of Lumia smartphones increased 19 percent quarter-on-quarters to 8.8 million units, as a result of the roll out of additional versions and what the firm said was strong demand mostly for the Lumia 520. According to research firm Strategy Analytics, Nokia was still in a distant third in the smartphone rank, since Apple sold more than 33.8 iPhones in the same quarter while market leader Samsung Electronics shipped 88.4 million smartphones in the period,.

In a statement following the report, DigitalOlympus.com lead researcher Josh Cole suggested that Microsoft can add new features to the Lumia to make it more appealing to users when it takes over next year. He added that “The remaining Nokia business unit can survive by specializing in business phone equipment.”
