Norristown, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/20/2017 -- Elmwood Park Zoo, located in Norristown, PA, is bracing for the harsh weather this winter with an appeal to the public for help funding supplies and items that will withstand the elements during the cold season. This Annual Appeal is a fundraising effort that raises money to counterbalance the loss of revenue during the winter months.
Elmwood Park Zoo is a non-profit organization, and ideal host for a unique corporate event in Chester County, PA, that charges admission fees to help fund the zoo's operations throughout the year. Those funds tend to dry up during the winter months because admissions slow and sometimes even stop altogether on the worst weather days. Even though guests aren't visiting, the zoo's staff members are still working to care, feed, and heat over 100 animals that call the zoo home.
Members of the animal care and facilities staff battle frozen locks while navigating snow and black ice to ensure each animal receives the daily care that they need.
Elmwood Park Zoo asks for donations during their Annual Appeal to help offset the loss of admissions revenue while contributing to the specific needs of the animals. For example, a $50 donation could purchase toys to keep squirrel monkeys active while they are stuck inside the indoor enclosure while a $100 donation helps purchase extra grain for the bison to keep them healthy and warm.
Donations to the zoo's Annual Appeal are tax-deductible. They can be made to the Zoo's Winter Care Appeal online at http://www.epzannualappeal.com or mailed to Elmwood Park Zoo, 1661 Harding Blvd., Norristown, PA 19401.
