Researchers at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (Gujarat) recently extracted a fibre from the pseudo stem of a banana plant and suggested it could be used as an eco-friendly substitute to certain mainstream fabrics. Bamboo is the most popular eco choice for fabrics at present, and were such a development to be made sustainable on a larger scale, it could revolutionise the fashion and textile industry.
