Increasingly, healthcare researchers and those dedicated to preventing the spread of healthcare-associated infections (HAIS) are finding worrisome evidence that home laundering of medical linens by medical professionals is an insufficient alternative to using a commercial facility. According to a recent study by the American Journal of Infection Control, home laundering "may fail to eliminate pathogens from garments," as no standardized methods or approved processes are undertaken to ensure that dangerous contaminants are eliminated.
