Ottawa, ON -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/20/2014 -- “Best Quebec Water 2014” is the first drinking water contest being held in Quebec to declare the province’s best municipal water for the year 2014. The panel of judges will rate the drinking water based on taste, odor and clarity. The Concours de la meilleure eau municipale du Québec 2014 s organized by Reseau Environnement, the Quebec chapter of The American Water Works Association (AWWA. It takes place in Quebec City on October 9th and 10th, 2014.
Francois Gagnon, Director General of the town of Franklin, QC is among the municipalities who have submitted water samples to the contest . “Our municipal water is of superior quality”, he says.
Other municipalities participating in the contest include Lac Megantic, a town struck by tragedy last summer when a train loaded with crude oil derailed and exploded, killing 47 people and destroying several buildings.
“We changed our water source from surface to groundwater recently and are looking to restore our residents’ confidence in their tap water, in the wake of last year’s tragedy,” says the town’s Director of Environment Services, Robert Mercier.
The winning municipality in this contest is eligible to move onto the international competition held by AWWA in June 2015. The contest’s panel of judges includes a sommelier of some repute, a VP of AWWA and CEO of a Canadian Corporation, and other prestigious volunteers.
